Can the polycarbonate sheet crack?

Polycarbonate (PC) is a robust, transparent thermoplastic known for its high impact resistance, dimensional stability, and thermal resistance. It offers excellent optical clarity, allowing up to 90% light transmission, and can withstand temperatures up to 140°C (284°F). PC is an excellent electrical insulator with great resistance to many oils and greases.

The chance of PC developing cracks is low, requiring multiple negative factors. The picture below, taken from our prototype that is still in use, does not show actual cracks that could lead to moisture intrusion. The cracks are merely indications of stress on the material and are not open. The threaded rods did not fit in the holes causing cracks. The design has been fixed to prevent this issue.
